Friday
After silent reading, we identified the evidence of quality on the paragraphs about elementary school classmates. For the remainder of the class we did a game of Chiffre Chance! related to short stories.
Thursday
Following up on our discussions yesterday about road traffic in Burma (!), I shared a video clip with you from a world famous television program and we collected 13 hyperboles used in the 7 minute clip! Next we did a metaphor writing activity. Great work btw! I was really impressed by the quality of metaphors that were created. If you haven't posted yours yet, give it to me tomorrow so it makes up on the walls for all to see. At the end of the class we read a bit of "The Metaphor" and began collecting description details of Miss Hancock and the narrator's mother.
Wednesday
After a quick trip to the library to pick up the Inside Stories 2 book, we had a short silent reading session and then returned to working on the two paragraphs about elementary classmates.
Tuesday
Most of today's class was dedicated to getting a good start on the two elementary classmates paragraphs. We went over the rubric that I created based on the sentence strips from yesterday.
Monday
We spent most of today's class reading over some sample paragraphs about elementary school classmates. After looking at each of the three, I asked you and a partner to write down one thing that the writer had done well. Once we had gathered the criteria, we put them on paper strips and pinned them to the bulletin boards. You did a great job of categorizing and labelling them. Tomorrow you will begin writing and I will type up the criteria, print-it and give you a copy.
