Monday, June 8 - Friday, June 12

Friday
Today we watched the first part of the 1996 version of Romeo & Juliet.

Thursday
We had some technical difficulties, but eventually were able to view another short explanation video about Romeo & Juliet. Next, we took a look at the Prologue which was correctly identified as a sonnet by someone in the class. We spent some time reading the Prologue aloud "in the round". We also spent a bit of time on some terms and definitions related to drama/Shakespeare such as soliloquay, monologue, blank verse, puns, oxymoron, etc. At the end of the class we looked at three movie trailers for the various film versions of the play. I will try to have all three on-hand tomorrow and we can decide which one to watch.

Wednesday
We took a break from writing today and talked about Shakespeare's time. We listened to some Old English, Middle English and surprised a few people with the news that Shakespeare wrote in modern English! We looked at the Reduced Shakespeare Company's 12 minute version of Romeo and Juliet.

Tuesday
I was away today. The instructions I left with the TOC advised them that everyone should work on completing their essay.

Monday
I spent some time speaking to everyone individually about their essay thesis today. The essay beginnings that people shared with me looked good. Remember to think about Christopher as a person who grows and changes during the novel. Also, think about why the author might have decided to feature a person with Asperger's as the main character. What might Christopher's unique characteristics allow the author to point out about human behaviour, society, life?
