Monday, June 1 - Friday, June 5

Friday
During today's class I returned the essay practice about writing introductions. Next we took a look at two quality examples of student essays and from them pulled out the elements that make an excellent essay. For the remainder of the period everyone worked on their essay thesis and outline.
Thursday
With the full complement of students back in attendance today, we talked about thesis statements and then began working on one for Curious Incident.

Wednesday
A significant number of people were away today on the field trip to Victoria. Everyone who did not go on the field trip read a entire novel, created a one-act play based on the novel, performed the play in front of the class then wrote a sonnet about their experiences ; )

Tuesday
I reminded everyone that Curious Incident has to be read for Thursday because we will begin writing the essay on that day. We began looking at a rather dark poem today: The Death of a Toad. We will spend a bit of time next week, after the essay, comparing and contrasting this poem to Ozymandias.

Monday
Once we had finished off Jabberwocky with the presentation of the quotes each group found, we had a look at a sonnet. Ozymandias is neither an Italian, nor a Shakespearean sonnet, exactly. However, it certainly looks and sounds like a sonnet. Well done to everyone who noticed the idea of impermanence presented in the poem.
