Friday
Using the poem "Metaphors" by Sylvia Plath, I modelled how to use the ten steps of a close reading to examine a poem. Afterwards, everyone went around the room, collecting information to add to their notes on how to do a close reading. At the very end of the class, we began looking at a sample poem from the provincial exam. We will pick up this up again next class.
Thursday
After silent reading we spent some time looking over the more challenging terms and devices for the exam. Everyone received a handout about figurative language and I asked you to find examples of the different figures of speech.
Wednesday
Today was the last classroom opportunity to work on the Curious Incident essay. Essays are to be emailed to me anytime before tomorrow.
Tuesday
Quite a few people were away today on a field trip. This class was spent working on the essay again.
Monday
I was away today. My instructions were for everyone to work on the Curious Incident essay. I will check your work with you tomorrow to ensure everyone is on track.
