Friday
We went off to the library at the beginning of the class to choose novels for silent reading. Each class please have your novel with your for reading during the first ten or fifteen minutes of the class. As I outlined today each time you complete a novel this term, create a novel autograph and pin it up on the English 10 bulletin board. An example of the novel autograph can be found in the links section of this blog. After the autograph explanation, we took a look at the web site Quizlet, using it for a bit of class competition related to the Terms and Devices handout from the government exam. At the end of the class we went over a list of twenty-five composition topics from past exams. We observed that the topics can all be classified in the following categories: change, influences, life experiences, life lessons.
Thursday
We reviewed what was accomplished yesterday in my absence. Very impressed to see what everyone accomplished - well done. We spent a bit more time on the ListMania before doing our first in-class timed write.
Wednesday
I was away on a field trip today! In my absence I asked that you carry on with the exploration of what makes a good story by again listening to some of the stories of your classmates. Next you began to create your ListMania document which you can continue to add to, and which can form the basis for many stories from your life that you could choose to tell. At the end of the class you were to do a timed write based on one of the things in your list.
Tuesday
We are off into semester 2! Today we ran through the course outline and had a brief look at the provincial exam. After that we began to consider where our stories come from and what makes a good story. To answer these questions, we interviewed one another and considered what was interesting and what makes a quality story.
