Friday
Doughnut Friday! Thanks to those of you who helped with the Aurasma problem. And thanks to those who helped with the flashcard production line! As it turns out, I think that J. had the best idea for the poems, and that was to use QR codes on the paper copies - they are simpler and more reliable than Aurasma. We had a bit of a tidy-up day getting, hopefully, the following things done: the pink evidence assessment sheet for the key learning areas in English; QR codes on printed copies of the poems; study terms and devices on Quizlet; email China; 3 Micro-Fictions; listening to the end of the short story Holding Harley; viewing some of the fabulous videos students created to accompany their poems. Have a great weekend. Email me your video on the weekend if you haven't already done so.
Thursday
Make sure you check the due dates to the right of this post.
Woah, tech Thursday! We spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out Aurasma and whether we could get a poem video that is online to be the overlay for your printed poems. I have set a challenge for the class: First person to get Aurasma working with an personal online video, I will get donuts for the class in your name. The other option for the publishing of your video is to use a QR code. Next we turned our attention to the short story Holding Harley. During reading there was great involvement in "Gambling on Predicitons". We will complete the reading of the story tomorrow and determine the winning predictors.
Wenesday
Today we did some "meta-work" which involved going through your writing folder and finding evidence of your learning in the four key areas for English: thinking, speaking/listening, reading/viewing, writing/representing. I was very impressed with the thoughtful questions you asked as you went through your folders looking for evidence of your learning. I think this is a valuable reflective activity. Given the shorten blocks today for PLC, that was about all we had time for!
Tuesday
Quite a few band students were away today, so the rest of us took it rather easy : ) After silent reading, people worked on emailing their pal in China; completing the three Micro-Fictions; and doing the novel autograph.
Monday
Micro-fiction peer editing was the focus for today's class. You should have three pieces done and have had three different editors check your pieces to ensure they meet the criteria. There was a flurry of activity at the end of the class to try to send out emails to China. Thanks for your patience! Email address are now posted in the classroom.
